Cause Description:
Mesita Elementary and Mesita Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) at Vilas is a community of diverse learners involved in several programs from Pre-K through 5th grades. Our programs have evolved through the desire to provide innovative educational opportunities that promote cultural awareness. As each learner is unique, we provide multiple research-based programs to meet the needs of each student. Mesita is fortunate to have the support of a strong Parent Teacher Association (PTA) that provides funding for several of our special activities and programs to enhance the education of our students. As a Title I school, we have a large concentration of economically disadvantaged, "at-risk" students where we receive supplemental funds to assist in meeting our students' educational goals. To give you an idea - 60% of our students enrolled are in the free and reduced lunch program and 86% of our students are Latino, come from broken homes with very modest socio-economic means and have limited formal schooling.
