Cause Description:
We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that sponsors a true no-kill shelter for homeless cats and dogs, located in Paris, Maine. We strive to improve the quality of life in the Oxford Hills area by example and promoting the responsible way to treat pets. Our shelter is equipped to provide treatment for 85+ cats at any one time, and is always full to capacity. We take in and adopt an average of 300 cats per year. All cats leave the shelter healthy, spayed/neutered, FeLV/FIV tested, vaccinated and treated for internal and external parasites. Sadly we turn many cats away due to lack of space. Our goal is to increase the adoption rate, allowing us to take in and save more cats. We hope that Petfinder.com will help us reach that goal. As a true no-kill shelter we do have a higher percentage of special needs cats than most other shelters. Some cats have been with us for years and we will continue to care for them until they are adopted. 99% of the funds needed to support the shelter and carry out our mission come from fund-raisers and donations from private individuals. At this time we do not have enough volunteer support to allow us to take in dogs and puppies at our shelter. However, we do work with other shelters to help dogs and puppies in need. We often assist in coordinating placement of pets that can remain in-home until an alternate home can be found. When possible, we also work with the victims of abuse to provide temporary housing for their cats during transitional periods.
