Cause Description:
Girls Learn International (GLI) gives American girls a voice in the movement for universal girls education. GLI pairs American middle and high school-based Chapters with Partner Classrooms in countries where girls have been traditionally denied access to education. GLI has over 40 U.S. Chapters and 35 Partner Classrooms in 9 countries (Afghanistan, Brazil, Cambodia, Ghana, Kenya, India, Pakistan, Tanzania, and Vietnam), and collaborates with more than 20 Partner Organizations around the world. Too often, global girls are denied an opportunity to give voice to their struggles, and the GLI Program specifically provides a forum for an ongoing dialogue among girls. By connecting American and international students in the struggle for girls’ access to education, GLI seeks to create a diverse network of youth activists and human rights leaders. The GLI Program promotes cross-cultural understanding and communication, gives girls the opportunity to explore issues affecting girls in the context of global human rights, and trains girls to be leaders and advocates for positive change.
