Cause Description:
Great Old Broads for Wilderness (Broads) is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt national, public interest, public lands, grassroots organization dedicated to increasing, preserving and protecting Americas roadless public lands. Created in 1989 by twenty women in honor of the 25th Anniversary of the National Wilderness Protection Act, we are a constituent-led organization with over 50% of our annual budget coming from members dues and gifts. Since 1989, Broads has grown to include over 3000 active members in all 50 states and a small international representation. Our grandmotherly image, sense of humor, perseverance, and passion for wilderness have been very effective in generating media attention and publicity for our cause. We listen respectfully and avoid strident contentiousness in our effort to build coalitions to find the healthiest solutions to public lands issues. We strive to provide our members with opportunities for hands on activism through our Broadwalks and monitoring the conditions of our public lands.
