Cause Description:
Since 2002, Rock'n Horse Rescue has offered a safe, rehabilitative environment to equines suffering from abuse and neglect or for those rescued from going to slaughter. A thorough adoption contract is required with extensive owner education offered to each new adoptive home. In Oct. 2006 Rock'n Horse Rescue and the Wakarusa Sale Barn joined efforts by creating the Stop To Adopt Program to rescue slaughter bound equines by purchasing them from slaughter auctions or dealers and making them available for adoption to approved homes. Over 40 equines ranging from minis to drafts, weanlings to geriatric horses, are cared for on a daily basis while they are being assessed for training, riding, physical condition, and temperament. Adoption fees are minimal. On site visitation with the horses as well as new owner education is provided. Donations are needed to continue to purchase at risk horses from slaughter auctions and to cover the daily costs of food, medical and rehabiitation efforts. Horses are also brought to the Stop To Adopt Program from Animal Control due to owner surrender or seizure on neglect and abuse cases.
