Honoring the human-animal bond to enhance the quality of life for all. Therapy Partners is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization that began in 1994. Animal assisted therapy is a therapeutic intervention that brings animals together with persons with physical and/or emotional needs as a way of meeting those needs. Our Partners Achieving Wellness (PAW) teams work in area hospitals, rehabilitation, long tern care, assisted living, and bereavement programs for children. Handlers and their therapy partners are part of the treatment team whose goal is to work with patients to achieve optimum health - emotional, social, physical or cognitive. PAL-Partners Achieving Literacy therapy teams work with second graders who are experiencing academic failure due to poor reading skills. Many of these children are also economically disadvantaged. An at-risk child is given the opportunity to read aloud, 3 times a month for 25 minutes, to a loving, non-judgmental therapy dog. Confidence and success as a reader grow, as does self-esteem. We have worked with over 200 children in 9 elementary since the program began in 2001. Since our beginning in 1994 we have made more than 75,000 visits.
