Founded in 2007, Petite Opera Productions is a non-profit 501(c)(3) Des Plaines-based opera company. The company is dedicated to exposing music and theatre lovers to opera, and turning them into opera lovers through intimate, fun productions that feature English translations, professionally trained performers and local talent. Productions are chosen based on their appropriateness to new patrons causing patrons to describe the company as "opera, but with training wheels". The company produces two major productions each year in Chicago's northwestern suburbs. It seeks to educate children and family members of all ages in the cultural richness of the operatic genre by producing opera, operetta, musical theatre written for classically-trained vocalists, and the company's original "spooferettas" which cross improvization with classical music to address popular issues of today.
