Headquartered in Groveland, Massachusetts, Sweet Paws Rescue is a “shelterless” dog rescue organization run by Cynthia Sweet and a great group of animal loving volunteers & fosters. Since SPR has no formal facility to house the dogs, we are a collaboration between a group of seasoned and reputable rescue women in Alabama and a collection of amazing foster volunteers here in Massachusetts. SPR works to re-home dogs from Massachusetts, Alabama, and beyond. Many people ask why Sweet Paws Rescue chooses to rescue dogs from out of state. Our first answer is, a dog knows no borders and can not help the situation in which it was born, so we rescue where the most help is needed. The Humane Society of the United States estimates that animal shelters care for 6-8 million cats & dogs every year in the United States, of which 3-4 million are euthanized due to lack of space, resources, and adoptive homes. Over the years, SPR has established a solid working relationship with a team of wonderful rescuers in Alabama so we can effectively and legally rescue dogs in the most efficient way possible. Sweet Paws Rescue is a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and is a licensed/registered rescue with the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture and follows the 1-AHO-05 Animal Health Emergency Order. Per requirement of the AHO, SPR quarantines all dogs/puppies at Cape Ann Animal Aid in Gloucester, Ma for 48 hours upon arrival into the state. Directly following the required quarantine period, all dogs/puppies and are examined, on site, by a licensed Massachusetts veterinarian. Once examined and given a clean bill of health, they are given Mass state Health Certificates and are free to go into foster care or to their permanent homes.
