Cause Description:
The Haiti Orphanage Sponsorship Trust (HOST) devolved from an initial desire to help affected children in the aftermath of the January 2010 earthquake. Our efforts quickly aligned with those of the Foyer Evangelique Universel Orphelinat in Croix des Bouquets, Haiti, which --.along with many other institutions in Haiti -- was faced with overwhelming needs. Within days of the earthquake, the Foyer’s child population had increased more than six-fold, from six to 39 children, ranging in age from pre-school to teenage, all from vulnerable circumstances and all already familiar with hardship. The Foyer has been struggling to provide shelter, clothing, toilet and bathing facilities, schooling opportunities and nourishment, as well as support and affection. It is a bare-bones operation run by the Foyer’s Pastor and his wife, along with a small staff of three.
