The Maryland Chapter of the American Sewing Guild is one of 135 chapters across the United States of America. The American Sewing Guild’s Mission: Advancing sewing as an art and life skill The vision of The American Sewing Guild, Inc., is to be recognized as the premier sewing organization that: • has a clientele that values and enjoys both personal and professional benefits from its membership; • embodies an organizational culture that is inclusive, generous, and passionate about needle arts; • introduces and develops educational programs; • is an active partner that explores new opportunities with both the sewing industry and the larger community; and • is committed to preserving and advocating for the needle arts. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES The American Sewing Guild’s goals are to continue to foster membership growth, to ensure financial security, and to build moderate organizational change. Membership growth will become the ASG’s focus: retaining and increasing membership, and strengthening the organizational culture for the continued future growth of ASG. By practicing conservative stewardship, the ASG will maintain its sound financial position. Our influence among partners in the sewing community will increase as we demonstrate growth. In return, our members will enjoy an enriched sewing community, a wealth of ASG-associated products and services, and participation in the preservation and promotion of sewing as an art and life skill. The ASG’s ability to recruit and retain members depends on strong chapter and organizational structure. The ASG will continue to develop and strengthen programs that provide leadership training at all levels and maintain chapter support through continued governance standards and financial stability and growth. Strong elected leaders will continue to dedicate the time and resources to achieve the goals of the ASG by utilizing communication and technology to promote social networking, education, and leadership development.
