High Desert Wildlife

Bend , Oregon

Cause Description:
High Desert Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation is one of the most comprehensive wildlife rehabilitation centers serving Central Oregon. We provide expert medical care and rehabilitation services to all wildlife species including birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. As of the end of October we've already admitted in excess of 1100 wildlife patients in 2015. Support from our local community is extremely important as we do not receive funding from any federal, state or local government agency. Our monthly costs to run the center are between $4000 and $5000, which includes Foods, Medications, utilities, property taxes etc. High Desert Wildlife serves in part as an emergency hospital for animals that are sick or injured. Common problems include wildlife injured by cars, barbed wire fences and power lines, animals caught by cats and orphaned baby animals. High Desert Wildlife also acts as a nursery for the hundreds of nestling birds and neonatal mammals orphaned each spring. Serving primarily the Central Oregon area HDW also provides a resource for people from as far away as Klamath Falls and Washington State and there is always a veterinarian and veterinary technician on-site. We operate under permits from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. In addition to receiving animals brought in by the public, local law enforcement and other agencies, our all-volunteer staff is on call 24/7 to respond to wildlife emergencies and provide transport and care to animals in distress. We appreciate your support!
