The North Valley Military Institute is all about helping 570 young men and women in grades 6-12 become the best human beings they can be. *Prepared for college *Leaders with a moral compass *Good citizens *Physically fit We serve a very needy population: *91% Free and Reduced Lunch *20% English learners *20% Special Education which is three or more times the number of typical charter schools *10% homeless and foster youth *More than 90% have experienced chronic school failure prior to coming to NVMI We get results: *We get 100% to graduate. It takes some five years, but they all graduate, despite the fact most who come into our HS come with significant credit deficiencies, having failed multiple classes previously *100% get accepted to four year colleges and universities; they don’t all choose to go directly to a 4-year college, but they at least know they have that option *We partner with Mission College to offer community college classes on campus so kids can get a head start on college. Some will graduate and enter college as sophomores, and some as juniors. *Though the average student comes here two or more years below grade level in English and math, which is the reason our state test scores are so low, we give internal assessments proving that more than 40% of NVMI students make a full year’s growth in less than five months. We need help continuing to offer this quality education because it costs much more than a typical school: *Free bus transportation provided out of our operating budget that is not provided as it would be at a typical public school district – costs the school more than $250,000 per year *Extensive free uniforms provided to each student, including a myriad of awards and military decorations and insignia – costs more than $300 per child per year *Extensive Special Education staff support to serve the high number of special needs students – more than $500,000 per year in staffing alone *A robust outdoor education, intramural and interscholastic athletics program, Summer Leadership Encampment, and three free meals a day to promote health and wellness for all students – more than $350,000 a year *Intensive academic supports before school, after school, weekends, and during traditional school breaks and the summer – more than $250,000 per year And the list goes on. NVMI makes a huge difference to kids who are underserved, who graduate from our school taking the military discipline and structure and applying it to their academic and personal lives, becoming leaders of character, physically fit, good citizens, and scholars ready to succeed in college.
